Alpine
I don't think I can say enough about Alpine to describe how cool I think it is, It took us a while to get there, and we got stopped by one of nicest Texas Highway Patrolmen ever, I generally distrust anyone who drives around harassing citizens, but this one was really nice, he didn't issue a ticket for our expired inspection, which of course is kind of funny since I got a ticket about a year ago for the same thing and I got it corrected immediately but the DPS had no record of the ticket, so I figured it was all good until I got a letter saying it wasn't. All they want is your fucking money anyway, I just wish they would just ask for a donation of 200$ a year and give you a sticker that says don't harass this guy he already paid, or wait does that already happen?
Back to the story, the cop let us off with a warning for expired inspection, warning, not ticket, I wish I had his name so I could say officer so and so is cool. We got into town and went straight to Railroad Blues, the club for the evening, It is a cool club, if your into that sort of thing, but Richard is really cool, so if your ever out in the area stop in have a beer (import, domestic or root) and say hi. That night was funny, the crowd really wanted to dance, I guess it being Saturday night in a small town you have to get your dance on, so this guy with a huge beltbuckle and a cowboy hat (for once a hat that was worn instead of a hat wearing someone, urban or urbane Austin cowthings) politely asked for us to play something he and his lady could dance to, but we didn't really have anything, so we just kept playing our moody, no dancin, set.
We stayed in a great little bungalow, the Antelope Inn, we each had our own kitchenette, that would have been great if we could spend more than a couple of hours everywhere we go. So late at night we wondered out of town a ways to stare at the stars, if you haven't been out in west Texas at night your missing alot o stars. I want to move to Alpine and be a hermit for awhile.
